The "Pavana Therapies" practice is based in Epsom, Surrey and is within half an hour's
drive from most areas of Surrey and of South West London, including Sutton, Kingston
upon Thames, Banstead, Caterham, Leatherhead, Redhill, Esher, Dorking and Reigate.
Reflexology which relates to all glands, organs and parts of the body. By knowing
the location of the reflex points in the feet, a Reflexologist can help create a
healing process and stimulate the healing mechanism of the body.
In 1913, Dr. William Fitzgerald, an American ear, nose and throat surgeon introduced
this therapy to the west. He noted that pressure on specific parts of the body could
have an anaesthetising effect on a related area. Developing this theory he divided
the body into 10 equal and vertical zones, ending in the fingers and toes. He concluded
that pressure on one part of a zone could affect everything else within that zone.
Thus reflex areas on the feet and hands linked to other areas and organs of the body
within the same zone. In the 1930's Eunice Ingham, a therapist, further developed
and refined the zone therapy into what is called foot Reflexology. She noticed that
congestion or tension in any part of the foot, mirrors the same in a corresponding
part of the body. Thus, when you treat the big toe there is a related effect in the
head, and treating the whole foot can have a relaxing and healing effect on all of
Often following illness, stress, injury or disease, the body is in a state of "imbalance"
and vital energy pathways are blocked preventing it from functioning effectively.
Reflexology can maintain the body's natural equilibrium and encourage healing. Deep
pressure of reflex points in the feet therefore:
Reduces stress and tension
Increases blood supply to affected organs and improves circulation
Helps rid the body of toxins
Helps the body to achieve balance
Since Reflexology treats the whole person, not the symptoms of disease, most people
benefit from treatment. The therapy helps bring relief to many chronic and acute
conditions, and it is suitable for all ages.
